Social Skills Program

The Play Is The Way (PITW) (Wilson McCaskill) social skills program is designed to develop independence in primary school students. It helps develop students of strong character and decency  with the social and emotional competencies to live and learn well. It also works to foster empathetic students, considerate of themselves, each other and the world in which they live with sound and good reasons for the things they say and do.

PITW is comprised of a self mastery checklist and five life rafts which work together:

  • Treat others as you would like them to treat you
  • Be brave -  participate to progress
  • Have reasons for the things you say and do
  • It takes great strength to be sensible
  • Pursue your personal best no matter who you work with

Each of the life rafts are taught through explicit instruction followed by games designed to build the understanding and ability to use the skills.
